About the Center
Work and Life Toolbox

At Smith you’re challenging yourself, taking risks, making mistakes and enjoying successes. The Wurtele Center for Work & Life develops tools to support you in all that you do — to help you thrive at Smith and beyond — and we present these tools during “Passport” workshops every semester. Our new, Web-based toolbox is a growing resource that’s designed for you to use any time. We welcome new ideas about how to support you in work and life, so please send them our way!

Do you have a great idea for a project but need extra cash to get it going? Do this semester’s courses require books that exceed your budget? Whatever the reason that you’re applying for Smith funding, the CWL aims to demystify the process.

Your professors want to hear from you! E-mail is a great way start communicating, but it’s important to consider the timing and subject. Here’s how to write a great (stress-free!) e-mail to the professor whose class you love.

It’s a good idea to meet with your professors! That way, you can get to know them and they can get to know you. Your professor sets office hours because he or she is interested in meeting and talking with you.

Thoughts, advice and strategies for students who would like to speak (or listen) more in class.

Want to invite a guest to speak at your house tea, but not sure where to start? We’ve provided a comprehensive list of possible tea-time visitors.
