Comparative literature majors study writing from all the linguistic communities known to our faculty: ancient Sumeria, Greece and Rome, medieval and modern Europe, Eastern Europe and Russia, Africa, Pakistan and India, China, Japan, the Jewish diaspora, Palestine and the Basque country, Central and Latin America, the Caribbean.
Our majors study around the world: in Japan and China, in Africa, in Central and Latin America, and Australia, as well as Europe. Recent graduates have spent a semester or a year in Kyoto, Beijing, Moscow, Senegal, Mexico and Rio de Janeiro, as well as Paris, Florence, Cordoba, Hamburg and Geneva. Many of them have later returned to the country where they lived, to work or study further.
