World AIDS Day/Day With(out) Art: Student Program

Student Program/Video Screening + Talkback Session
In recognition of the 28th annual World AIDS Day/Day With(out) Art, SCMA is pleased to collaborate with Visual AIDS to host a weekend-long screening of seven new, innovative short videos entitled ALTERNATE ENDINGS, RADICAL BEGINNINGS.
On Friday, December 1, World AIDS Day/Day With(out) Art, SCMA will offer a timed screening and student talkback session about these videos.
This program is offered in partnership with PRISM, the Black Students' Alliance of Smith, and the Smith Student Event Committee.
Curated by Erin Christovale and Vivian Crockett for Visual AIDS, ALTERNATE ENDINGS, RADICAL BEGINNINGS prioritizes Black narratives within the ongoing AIDS epidemic.
The videos will be shown continuously in SCMA's Video & New Media Gallery on December 1, 2 and 3, during regular museum hours.

Step in our surrealist photobooth and re-enact scenes straight out of an Honore Sharrer painting. Make your own DIY bird as a photobooth prop or use ready-made ones.

VTS Beginner Practicum

The two-day Beginner Practicum focuses on developing VTS facilitation skills through presentation of the basic theoretical tenets of VTS and opportunities to practice with group coaching. As it is the first workshop in our training series, those new to VTS or with minimal experience are welcome. $435. Register through the VTS website at https://vtshome.org/events/?eid=6119.

Drawing to Look Closely—A figure drawing workshop in the Sharrer exhibition

Katy Schneider, artist/guest instructor
Join artist Katy Schneider to learn or polish sketching and drawing skills and participate in a facilitated discussion and drawing exercises designed to encourage careful looking at Honoré Sharrer’s work. Explore gesture, proportion, perspective and volume while working from a nude model as well as Sharrer's paintings.
Katy Schneider teaches drawing and painting at Smith College. She is a recipient of a Guggenheim and an N.E.A. fellowship, and awards from the National Academy of Design and the Academy of Arts and Letters. Focusing on themes related to her upbringing — making the most of a small space, organizing chaos, and uncovering family dynamics — her work is in numerous collections including The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the New Britain Museum and SCMA.
