Biography

Tracy Tien is the spatial data specialist and FAA-certified remote pilot in the Spatial Analysis Lab at Smith College. At Smith, she engages the community with research intersecting spatial science and co-teaches an aerial imagery and cinematography course using drones. Prior to joining Smith, her affinity for maps and animals led her to the conservation field, where she modeled land-use planning and conservation prioritization. She has a bachelor’s degree in international relations from the University of Richmond and interests in contested territories and how mapping technologies shape narratives of place.
