Biography

Tanya Pearson is a Ph.D. candidate and lecturer in the history department at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and director of the Women of Rock Oral History Project. Her first book, Why Marianne Faithfull Matters, was published in 2021, and her criticism has appeared in The Washington Post, Bust Magazine, and Oral History Journal. Her research and teaching interests include women, gender and sexuality, 20th-century rock music and popular culture, oral and public history, and 20th-century and modern United States. Her dissertation focuses on feminist backlash in the 1990s and the removal of nonconformist women from mainstream rock radio after 9/11.
