Shayla-Vie Jenkins is interested in the dancing body’s potential for creating diverse movement languages and landscapes. Her current solo work is in dialogue with the poetry of Gwendolyn Brooks.
Jenkins spent a decade performing with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company. Throughout her time with the company, she taught numerous master classes and workshops, and restaged some of Jones’s most notable works. Her most recent restagings took place at Duke University and the Five College Dance Department.
She has been in the faculty of the American Dance Festival and has worked with Yanira Castro, Gus Solomons Jr., Rebeca Lazier and The AO Movement Collective. She graduated with honors from Fordham University, with a major in dance and minor in English literature.
