Biography

Mary Scherer is a doctoral candidate in sociology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Her teaching and research interests include educational inequality; culture; qualitative methods; the intersections of race, gender and class; and urban sociology. Her current research compares students’ access to social and cultural resources at flagship research universities and regional state universities.

Scherer has achieved distinction for her teaching and research with awards from the American Sociological Association, the Society for the Study of Social Problems and the University of Massachusetts. Her research has appeared in the journals Race, Gender, & Class; City & Community; and Sociation Today.
