Biography

Lydia Miranda Oram holds a B.A. from Smith College in Spanish language and literature with a minor in Italian language and literature, an M.A. from Columbia University in Italian literature and language, and an MPhil and a PhD from New York University in comparative literature. She has published translations from Spanish and Italian as well as articles on Latin-American and Italian literature, film, and television. Her areas of interest and research include (but are not limited to): translation studies; film studies; ethnicity; politics (in film and media), the history of food and wine; diaspora, immigration, emigration, and exile; historical linguistics; travel writing; southern American fiction; modernism; poetry; creative writing. She has taught language and literature at Columbia and NYU.
