Lou Ann Bierwert has been the instruments and techniques instructor (ITI) and technical director of the Center for Molecular Biology for 10 years. In this role, she facilitates research year-round for faculty, undergraduate and graduate researchers, and students engaged in course-based research, assisting with experimental design, use of instrumentation, and data analysis. In the summer she assists students in Smith's Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship and teaches in the Summer Science and Engineering Program, where she has taught the course, "Your Genes, Your Chromosomes" for more than 14 years. She received both her bachelor's and master's degrees from Smith and was a research associate for more than two decades at Smith in molecular-based projects in parasitology and biomechanical engineering.
