Amelia McNamara received her bachelor's in English and mathematics from Macalester College, and her doctorate in statistics from the University of California, Los Angeles. Her research is at the intersection of statistics education, data science and statistical computing. In particular, she is concerned with making it easier for everyone to do and understand statistics. In her dissertation, “Bridging the Gap Between Tools for Learning and for Doing Statistics,” McNamara developed a list of attributes that all statistical computation tools should aspire to, including easy entry, interactivity at every level and simple support for narrative, publishing and reproducibility. She is committed to open-source science and STEM education and has contributed to the labs associated with the OpenIntro statistics textbook as well as authoring several fully reproducible journal articles.
