Jobs in the Private Sector
Smith College and the Student Employment Office are not responsible for the safety, wages, working conditions or other aspects of off-campus non-work-study employment. The college does not screen employers who post job opportunities at the Student Employment Office, and by posting jobs Smith College and the Student Employment Office do not make any representation as to the working conditions that may exist at any place of employment. Exercise good sense and report any job that seems questionable to the student employment coordinator.
Any domestic Smith student can apply for a job in the private sector. International students are not eligible to work off campus.
A position in the private sector is a private contract between the employer and the student. Employers set their own pay rate; the college does not offer advice.
How to Apply
Employers in Northampton and the extended community will often advertise positions on JobX hoping to attract Smith students. Although we permit these positions to be advertised on Smith's website, interviewing and hiring is a private contract between the student and the outside employer, with no other affiliation with the college.
Use of this system shall be entirely at the risk of the users hereof and the college expressly disclaims any and all liability with respect thereto. It is the responsibility of the student to research the integrity of the organizations to which she is applying. The student is advised to use caution and common sense when applying for any position with an organization or private party. Do not put yourself in a vulnerable situation. Even the best job opportunity is not worth jeopardizing your personal safety.
