Events & Programs

Pet-a-Pet Day

The Smith years are ones of growth and change. The four years you spend here as a student allow for new experiences, new directions, and new challenges. It is often a time of questioning. We offer many events and gatherings to foster learning and dialogue. These programs may combine prayer, reflection, discussion and self-discovery, giving students encouragement for a lifetime of spiritual development.

If you have an idea for a program, please contact Maureen Raucher or Kim Alston.

Observing Holidays

It can be both a joy and a challenge to take the time to observe your religious holidays during college. The Center for Religious & Spiritual Life offers on-campus programming for several religious holidays, and we can help you find services in the community for other holidays. College policy states that any student who is unable to attend classes, exams or work due to a religious observance will be excused and given an opportunity to make it up (see the Smith College Course Catalog for the full policy).

Local Congregations & Places of Worship

Local congregations are very welcoming to students, and offer worship and other programs that are open to the public. See our list of local congregations and places of worship.

Religious & Spiritual Events on Campus

Weekly CRSL Events

Meditation

Mondays 5-6 p.m., Chapel Sanctuary

Students, faculty and staff are all invited to attend weekly meditation with Ruth Ozeki. This will be a simple, relaxed, silent practice of sitting meditation, using chairs or floor cushions. Meditation instruction will be offered at the beginning of the meeting, so beginners are always welcome, and there will be time for questions and some dialogue, as well.

Soup, Salad & Soul

Fridays Noon-1 p.m., Bodman Lounge

Soup, Salad & Soul is a soulful conversation every Friday at noon over delicious homemade vegetarian soup and salad prepared by student cooks. Students, faculty, and staff are invited for discussion on philosophical musings, current events, Smith issues of interest, matters of spirituality and various other topics introduced by student leaders. All are welcome. Come for the food; stay for the discussion!

Jummah Prayer & Lunch

Fridays 12:15-1:15 p.m., Chapel Sanctuary
