Laptop, Tablet, and Projector Loan
Staff and faculty who are traveling on college business or have certain other off-campus computing needs can borrow a laptop computer, tablet computer, or digital projector from ITS.
Our Windows and Macintosh laptops are equipped with standard office software such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. All laptops support Internet access via wireless and Ethernet connections.
Laptops, tablets, and projectors are loaned on a first-come, first-served basis, so please let us know your requirements as far in advance as possible.

The short-term portable computer loan program is intended for staff and faculty who need a computer for a professional conference or for a brief period of off-campus work.
To reserve a portable computer for up to three weeks, call the Center for Media Production at x2954 or send email to sbycensk@smith.edu.
Please make your reservation well in advance to ensure that a suitable device will be available. If you email your reservation request, please specify:
- Whether you need a Mac or Windows laptop
- Your pickup and return dates

Short-term Digital Projector Loans for Staff and Faculty
Staff and faculty who are traveling or have certain other off-campus computing needs can borrow a digital projector that will work with either a Windows or Macintosh computer.
To reserve a projector, call the Center for Media Production at x2954 or send email to sbycensk@smith.edu. Please make your reservation well in advance to ensure that a projector will be available.
If you need a projector for classroom use, please contact Classroom Support at x3474.

Sabbatical Laptop Loans for Faculty
The Sabbatical Laptop Loan Program assists tenure-track faculty who require computer equipment during their sabbatical leave.
The program allows you to borrow a Windows or Macintosh laptop computer for up to one year during your sabbatical leave. Please contact the Center for Media Production at x2954 to make arrangements.

Responsibilities of the Borrower
Pick-up and return of portable computers and projectors takes place in the Center for Media Production in the lower level of the Alumnae Gym.
When you pick up your loaner equipment, you will be asked to sign and date a loan agreement that specifies the terms of the loan.
If someone else picks up the loaned equipment for you, we will send along the agreement form. Please sign, date, and return it to the Center for Media Producation as soon as possible.
Terms of the Loan
- Return of Equipment: You must return the loaned equipment at the end of the loan period.
- Property Protection: You are responsible for taking appropriate precautions to prevent damage, loss, or theft of the loaned equipment.
- If the loaned equipment is lost, or damaged beyond normal "wear and tear," you are required to notify the IT Service Center.
- In the event of theft, you are required to file an appropriate Public Safety or police report and notify the IT Service Center.
- If the loaned equipment is lost, or damaged beyond normal "wear and tear," you are required to notify the IT Service Center.
- Reimbursement in event of loss, theft, or damage: If the loaned equipment is lost, stolen, or damaged* during your loan period, you are responsible for reimbursing the college as follows:
Years since purchase Amount to be reimbursed by borrower 0 - 1 year 75% of original cost 1 - 2 years 50% of original cost More than 2 years 25% of original cost
* Dell's laptop warranty covers accidental damage.
