Campus Networks

All networks and multi-user systems at Smith College are interconnected by a campus-wide backbone network that provides high-speed access to resources on and off campus. Virtually all parts of the campus have network wiring, and these networks in turn connect to the campus backbone. These connections give occupants of every building the ability to connect to Smith's file servers, multi-user systems, and the Internet.

The Novell network file servers provide the ability to store and share files, as well as access to a variety of applications including word processing and spreadsheet software, email, and Internet tools such as Telnet and Netscape. Student residences are also networked as part of the ResNet project. ResNet offers access to the four dedicated student file servers, email, and the Internet.
