Tax Forms

Federal Tax Withholding 

Federal tax witholding rates are based on the information provided in the Form W-4. Each employee completes a Form W-4 during thier orientation and may submit an updated form to change the witholding at any time.

Massachusetts Tax Withholding

The Massachusetts Employee’s Withholding Exemption Certificate (Form M-4) information calculates the state tax witholding.  Each employee completes a Form M-4 during thier orientation and may submit an updated form at any time.  The M-4 allow s full time students to claim exemption from tax withholding if they earn less than $8,000 in the calendar year.

Visit the Internal Revenue Service website for all services relating to income taxes. The Bureau of Labor Statistics has a list of state tax withholding forms.

For employees in other states, please contact payroll.

Form W-2

Smith College is required by the IRS to provide all employees with a Form W-2 for each calendar year to be used in completing the employee’s annual tax return. The Form W-2 details the employee’s compensation and tax withholding amounts for the year.

Current employees may choose to receive their W-2 forms online through the BannerWeb system. In making this election W-2 forms are accessible at any time.  

Sign Up/Revoke Electronic W-2 Consent

  1. Log in to BannerWeb via the Smith Portal
  2. Choose the Employee tab
  3. Select on Tax Information
  4. Select on Electronic W-2 Consent
  5. Select the My Choice box to consent or revoke to receive W-2 electronically and then Submit
