President Kathleen McCartney has announced the successful culmination of the Women for the World campaign, the most ambitious fundraising event in Smith’s history.

In an email to the campus and to alumnae around the world, McCartney noted that on December 31, the final day of the campaign, total fundraising had “significantly surpassed” the campaign goal of $450 million. (Final fundraising totals will be available later this spring.)

McCartney’s email noted that the campaign was fueling new ventures, including design-thinking initiatives, academic centers and a new student leadership program.

“Perhaps most consequentially,” she wrote, “we raised close to $130 million for financial aid, funding that will benefit women of promise for generations to come.”

Smith students, faculty and staff are invited to join campaign leadership in celebrating the success of the campaign at a March 4 on-campus community event featuring actress, playwright, and social commentator Anna Deavere Smith. Ticket information and other details about the event—which will take place at 4 p.m. in Sweeney Concert Hall—will be posted on the Gate in the next few weeks.
