Diversity Resources

The Lazarus Center supports students and alumni with their career development regardless of their backgrounds. We encourage you to schedule an appointment with an adviser to discuss your individualized search.

Diversity programs focus on preparing and placing underrepresented students in internships or jobs in a wide variety of fields.

INROADS - A national nonprofit looking to develop and place talented underserved minorities in business and industry. INROADS works with top companies to help secure a paid multiyear internship in order to help prepare interns for corporate and community leadership.

InternX - For rising sophomores with at least a 2.8 GPA from ethnically underrepresented groups. InternX merges diversity, inclusion, and efficiency to the internship matching process—for opportunities in everything from STEM to Business, Finance, and Marketing. Free membership. Provided by the Fund II Foundation.

SEO - Superior educational and career programs for young people from underserved communities to maximize their opportunities for college and career success. Student interns can be placed within companies in the corporate, banking, corporate law or the nonprofit sector. SEO provides mentorship and training for students throughout their internship experiences and works to ensure that students can get job offers from the companies and organizations they intern with over the summer. 

MLT - Management Leadership for Tomorrow (MLT) is the premier career development institution that equips high potential African Americans, Hispanics and Native Americans with the skills, coaching and door-opening relationships that unlock their potential. MLT is working to develop the next generation of minority leaders for the corporate, nonprofit and entrepreneurial sectors.

CBCF Congressional Internship Program - This intensive nine-week summer program offers the opportunity for college students from across the nation to learn about the legislative process, leadership and careers in the policy-making process. Interns work in CBC member offices, attend professional development events and participate in leadership development projects.

The LGBTQ Alumnae Alliance of Smith College connects alumni and students to provide personal and professional support as well as to engage in dialogue relating to sexual orientation and gender identity and other relevant civic and social issues (also found on Facebook).

Common Ground  is an education/consulting firm focused on workforce diversity in the areas of sexual orientation, gender identity and gender role.

Echelon Magazine offers business news and information targeted to the GLBT community. They also have an employment board.

Human Rights Campaign – Issues: Workplace covers nondiscrimination policies, benefits and other practices that include LGBT workers and are essential for U.S. businesses as they compete for talent and customers. Also see HRC's LGBTQ Employee Resources

LGBT Connect – Job board for connecting employers with the LGBT community.

National Center for Lesbian Rights: Employment. In 33 states, it is legal to fire someone based on their actual or perceived sexual orientation, and in 37 states there are no state laws that protect those who are fired based on their gender identity. Through NCLR’s case work, public advocacy and public education, this organization is committed to ending discrimination in employment for all LGBT individuals.

National LGBT Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to expanding the economic opportunities and advancements of the LGBT business community.

Out & Equal™ Workplace Advocates is a national organization devoted to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community in the workplace.

Out for Work is a national nonprofit dedicated to educating, preparing and empowering LGBT students and their allies for the transition from academia to the workplace.

Out Professionals is a GLBT networking site.

Pride at Work's purpose is to mobilize support between the organized labor movement and the GLBT community around issues related to social and economic justice.

The Resource Center for Sexuality & Gender (RCSG) seeks to contribute to an understanding of the diverse meanings and expressions of sexuality and gender, and the intersection of sexuality, gender, class and race (as well as other social identities).

Transgender Law and Policy Institute is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advocacy for transgender people. Visit the Employer and Union Policies page.

The Public Leadership Education Network (PLEN) is the only national organization whose sole mission is preparing women for public leadership. PLEN offers the following seminars:

Women@Work Network is targeted to current and returning professional women who are seeking work-life balance and flexibility. This site connects and serves women who are interested in both part-time and full-time work and the employers who need their skills and expertise.

Workforcediversitynetwork.com is a network of professionals and organizations dedicated to being a catalyst to enhance professional development, understanding, promotion and management of diversity and inclusion as an essential part of business success.

National Urban League offers a large searchable job database that highlights organization interested in diversifying their talent pool.

National Association of Asian American Professionals helps Asian American professionals connect with one another and with resources that will help them take the next steps in their careers.

The Society of Hispanic HR Professionals hosts monthly networking meetings, along with regular career fairs and seminars.

State University of New York Western Consortium’s Directory of Internships and Fellowships for Native Americans is a resource provided on behalf of members of the Six Nations (Seneca, Cayuga, Tuscarora, Onondaga, Oneida, and Mohawk). 

Educators for Fair Consideration (E4FC): Life After College Guide sheds light on the post-grad possibilities that do exist for undocumented students. This comprehensive guide includes everything from student testimonials and survival tips to graduate and professional school advice.

My Undocumented Life Blog: Applying to Grad School and Internships provides up-to-date resources to undocumented students, such as scholarship opportunities, strategies for navigating the higher education system, information on how to apply for DACA or advanced parole, and much more.

United We Dream: Dream Educational Empowerment Program (DEEP) empowers immigrant students and promotes educational justice by providing curriculum resources, institutional toolkits, conferences and webinar opportunities, as well as general career resources for undocumented students.

National Immigration Law Center (NILC): DACA and Workplace Rights answers questions that DACA recipients may ask in regards to their workplace rights, disclosing immigration status with supervisors or potential employers, and guidance on how to fill out certain hiring documents.

Resources for Undocumented Students, Scholarships, Grants & Internship - The Latino/a Studies Program at Cornell University have compiled a comprehensive but non-exhaustive list of scholarships, internships, and research opportunities available to undocumented and DACAmented students.

Job Accommodation Network offers the Searchable Online Accommodation Resource (SOAR) system, which is designed to let users explore various accommodation options for people with disabilities in work and educational settings.

Lime Connect is a not-for-profit corporation founded in 2006 to represent an out-of-the box business approach in the disability talent space.

National Business & Disability Council is a resource for employers seeking to integrate people with disabilities into the workplace and companies seeking to reach them in the consumer marketplace.

Organization for Autism Research - OAR’s employment initiative aims to connect individuals with autism with meaningful employment opportunities, and provide them with the supports necessary to succeed long-term. 

Resume Lab - A resource on how to thrive in a career as a person with a disability and view dozens of placement programmes and networks as well as the rights of disabled job seekers.

The Sierra Group Recruit Disability.org provides information, guidance, and resources on every aspect of the job search process: salary research, resume suggestions, search job postings, and articles on the latest news.

Smith College dis/Ability Alliance is a group of disabled, disability-identified, and otherwise disability-adjacent Smith College students.

Ticket to Work has information on Work Incentives Improvement Act of 1999 (Public Law 106-170), and the Ticket to Work Program.
