Virtual Benefits Fair

Smith College provides a competitive and flexible benefits program so that you can make the best choices for your needs and budget. We are always evaluating the market to ensure that we offer competitive benefits and exceptional services. Last year, we introduced Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts to deliver a best-in-class service to our faculty and staff.

For 2022, there are exciting changes coming to our benefits program!
The college is ...

  • adding a new PPO plan with out-of-area coverage
  • expanding coverage off gender-affirming benefits
  • enhancing our $150 fitness reimbursement. Get rewarded for healthy behavior! You could save up to $150 annually for participating in a qualified fitness program or buying qualified fitness equipment and $150 for a qualified weight-loss program.
  • adopting a new Mind & Body $100/year reimbursement for qualifying massage therapy, hypnosis, acupuncture, meditation, tai chi programs and more
  • offering a new diabetes support program through OptumRx
  • offering pet health insurance through Nationwide
  • holding health and dental rates the same for the third year in a row!

See the summary of what’s new in the latest HR Update.

What You Need To Do

Consider the new PPO plan if you:

  • have moved out-of-network,
  • have dependents who live in another state,
  • travel frequently or for significant periods of time, or
  • have a PCP located outside Massachusetts

Use the Health Plan Comparison Tool.
Check out the Open Enrollment page to estimate your out-of-pocket expenses under each health plan. Compare your Smith College plan options with your spouse’s coverage (if available) to decide which plan is best for your needs and budget.

Gather information.
Collect the dependent information you’ll need (birth date, Social Security Number, primary care physician) if you plan to choose the Value HMO or HMO medical option.

Visit Workday.
Review your current coverage, dependents and beneficiary designations. Complete the Open Enrollment task in your Workday inbox by November 30, 2021. If you don’t make any changes, you will default into your current coverage options but will not be eligible to participate in the Flexible Spending Accounts. You won’t be able to make changes until next year’s enrollment window unless you experience a qualified status change during the year.

See the new Blue Cross Blue Shield video.

Watch your mail!
Before January 1, 2022, you will receive two new ID cards: one for medical coverage and one for prescription drug coverage through OptumRx. Don’t forget to show your new ID card to your provider at your first appointment, or to your pharmacy at your first fill of the new year.
