Rachel Gerstein is an associate professor in the microbiology and physiological systems department at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. She is the co-leader of the Capstone Scholarship and Discovery course at UMass and a scientific adviser at the university’s Core Flow Cytometry Lab. Gerstein also serves as chair of the Career Development for Women’s Faculty Committee.
Gerstein has held numerous volunteer positions for Smith. Among them: area admission coordinator for the Central Massachusetts region; national alumnae admission coordinator for region 1 (current); secretary for the Smith College Club of Central Massachusetts (current); memorial chair for the class of 1984 (current); and member of the AASC Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
In addition to her Smith degree in biological sciences, Gerstein holds a doctorate in biology from Brandeis University.
