Smith College pioneered study abroad as part
of the liberal arts curriculum when it introduced its Paris program in 1925. Still
a leader in international education, Smith’s four Junior Year Abroad programs
offer academic themes for the 21st century.
Geneva,
Switzerland
Students enroll with Swiss and international students in the francophone
Université de Genève, the European Institute, and the Graduate School
of International and Development Studies, where program alumnae regularly return
for graduate study.
Hamburg,
Germany
Enroll in courses with German students studying government, economics,
social sciences, humanities, mathematics and sciences. For 45 years the University
of Hamburg has been welcoming students studying through Smith, the only American
program in Hamburg.
Paris,
France
Students take courses at the Institut d’Études Politiques
(“Sciences Po”), at the multidisciplinary Université de Paris
VII-Denis Diderot and at the historic Sorbonne -- the Université de Paris
IV. Courses are also offered at the Smith Center and through consortium colleges.
Florence,
Italy
The oldest American program in Florence, Smith’s faculty directors
have welcomed students to the Sede since 1931. Students live in Florentine homes,
situated either within the city or in the Tuscan countryside.
