Smith prepares students to live in a global society by integrating world perspectives into courses across the curriculum, from art history to biology. The college offers courses in an unusually wide range of languages, including Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Hebrew as well as a host of European languages.

All students have the opportunity to travel abroad for study, work and research or to have an internationally oriented experience in the United States. Students returning from their international experiences bring their new perspectives into seminars designed to connect their time away from campus to their academic interests.

International students are an important component of the Smith community and are well integrated into campus life. Participating in extracurricular activities and international student organizations allows international and all Smith students to experience different cultures while in Northampton.
