Smith offers more than 150 courses in foreign
languages and civilizations. Learning a language is not just learning about its pronunciation,
grammar and vocabulary; it is learning to see the world as another culture sees
it. It is also learning to see your own culture from a new perspective. Knowledge
of a foreign language will enable you to compare and contrast cultural concepts.
