Long recognized as a leader in international education, Smith is, in many respects, a “world college for the world’s women.” Since the early 1900s, the college has had an international emphasis in its curriculum. Today, Smith offers 13 languages and six programs in interdisciplinary area and international studies. Faculty members teach more than 400 courses relating to international issues and many more that examine different cultures within the United States. Each year, hundreds of Smith students study abroad, often incorporating internships into their experiences, while the Smith campus welcomes over 300 students from more than 60 countries. Smith also hosts internationally renowned visiting scholars and speakers in a range of disciplines from around the world.

Central to Smith's global initiative is its commitment to shaping a unique education that takes into account who each student is and who she is becoming as a leader. Our promise is that she will leave Smith with the personal and intellectual capacities to lead in the world.
