Blasphemy in the Land of the Pure

The Global Studies Center presents the Global Commons in response to the accusation of blasphemy against Sherry Rehman '85, Pakistan's Ambassador to the United States, for the comments she made about the law on a Pakistani talk show in 2010. Join in a discussion about the string of controversial blasphemy cases in Pakistan.

A Fight Against All Odds: Asian American Empowerment

ASA will present the film "Vincent Who?," a documentary on the legacy of Vincent Chin and Asian American political empowerment. Each year Smith College selects six students to attend Ewha International Summer School tuition free. Applicants with a strong interest in studying the Korean language and culture, one year of Korean study and a 3.0 GPA are preferred. Korean nationals are not generally eligible.

Remembering Fukushima and Beyond: Challenges and Resilience after Japan's Earthquake
March 8-9
In memory of 2011's triple disaster in Tōhoku, Japan, this event will feature documentary films, subtitling workshop, and panel discussion with students and faculty about the earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear crisis. The event itself is a collaboration of students and faculty members of Five Colleges. We dedicate this memorial event, joining with others in Japan and around the world, to showing our support for the courage and efforts of the survivors in the aftermath.
