Most students come to college with the awareness that
the world is increasingly international. Some come with an intense interest in international
affairs; others simply want to learn more about the larger world. How can you channel
this awareness in your Smith College experience?
You may want international relations to be a central
feature of your studies at Smith, or you may simply want to expand your horizons
beyond the country in which you live. In either case, the choice of how to do this
may not be immediately apparent. Smith does not offer a major for those who want
to focus on the complex world of international affairs; nor is there an ‘‘introduction
to the world’’ course for those who want to dip their toes into the subject.
Instead, the study of other countries, other cultures, and the interactions across
countries is featured throughout the curriculum, indeed throughout the college.
From the faculty with their varied international backgrounds
and interests, to the courses on distinct cultures and languages of the world, to
the active international student organizations, to the foreign language lunches,
Smith is a world college. |
