Studies conducted over the past few decades have documented low levels of financial literacy in the United States, especially among young people. WFI's own 2005 nationwide survey of college students indicates that female students lag behind their male counterparts when it comes to understanding financial concepts. Many of these studies also reveal that those who do not know much about personal finance often use unreliable sources for financial guidance and information.
