After more than a year of work by staff in
the offices of college relations, admission, student affairs, residential life and
information technology services, the college’s new Web site went live in February,
2003. While the goal was to create a lively and user-friendly smith.edu that serves
the whole college community, the project also sought to develop a site that would
welcome prospective students, for whom the Web is a critical piece of the college
search.
The material presented on the new home page is not only
interesting and informative, it also addesses the initial concerns of many prospective
students when they’re considering colleges: “Are there people like me
at Smith?” “How does Smith feel?” and “What makes Smith special?”
Those who are already members of the Smith community
-- faculty and staff, current students, alumnae and parents -- have the option of
using "portal"
pages that have the links they most commonly use in handy lists. |
