MacLeish Field Station Research: Soils

The hemlock woolly adelgid is invading the hemlock forests of northeastern United States, threatening to cause considerable damage to the natural environment of western Massachusetts. Smith researchers are using the woodland property of the MacLeish Field Station to study what the loss of hemlock trees will mean to the soil composition of the forest floor.
