Bylaws revisions:
ARTICLE III - MEMBERSHIP
Old. Section 1. Members. The membership categories of FUN shall consist of Regular Members, Fellows, Student Members, Organizational Members, and Sustaining Members. Acceptance to the Regular, Student, and Organizational membership categories requires written application to the Secretary. Acceptance to the Sustaining Associate membership categories is at the invitation of the President (with the approval of the Executive Committee). Fellow status is automatically granted on reaching 10 years affiliation with FUN.

ARTICLE V - OFFICERS
Old. Section 1. Officers. The Officers of FUN shall be as follows: a President, a President-elect, a Past President, a Secretary, and a Treasurer. They shall hold office until their successors are elected. The President-elect shall be elected annually for a period of one year by a mail vote of the Regular Members, and shall automatically succeed to the office of President at the end of the President's term, specifically at the conclusion of the Annual Business Meeting following the election. At the same time the previous President-elect shall become President and the previous President shall become Past President. The Secretary and Treasurer shall be elected once every two years for a two-year term of office. Subject to the provisions of these Bylaws, each officer, except the Secretary and Treasurer shall hold office until the next Annual Meeting or any special meeting held in lieu thereof, or until a successor is chosen and qualified. Each officer shall, subject to these Bylaws, have in addition to the duties, responsibilities, and powers herein set forth, such duties, responsibilities, and powers as are commonly incident to the office, and such duties, responsibilities, and powers as the Executive Committee shall from time to time designate.

The Treasurer shall render to the President and the Executive Committee at its regular meetings, or when the Executive Committee so requires, an account of the financial transactions and status of FUN. An annual report of the financial status of FUN shall be delivered to the members at the Annual Business Meeting.

ARTICLE VII - EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
Section 1. Executive Committee. The affairs of FUN shall be managed through an Executive Committee consisting of four elected Councilors and the President, President-elect, the Advisory Board of Past Presidents, Treasurer, Treasurer-Elect and Secretary. All members of the Executive Committee shall be entitled to one vote each except for the presiding officer, who shall vote only in the case of a tie.

Old. Section 1. Officers. Should the Office of President become vacant, the President-elect shall become President and serve the remainder of the term as well as the succeeding term. Should the position of President-elect become vacant between the annual election and the Annual Business Meeting, the Executive Committee shall by majority vote elect a member of the Executive Committee to serve in an interim capacity until a replacement can be elected. Should the Office of Secretary or Treasurer become vacant, the Executive Committee shall by majority vote elect a Councilor to serve in an interim capacity until the next duly elected candidate assumes office.

The Finance Committee shall be responsible for oversight and administration of all financial dealings of the society.

SOMAS-URM: Support of Mentors and their Students
in the Neurosciences from Underrepresented Minority Groups
The SOMAS Program is pleased to announce the 2009 SOMAS-URM summer fellowship program designed to support junior faculty (untenured/pre-tenure assistant professors, typically within 5 years of having completed Ph.D. and postdoctoral training) in the neurosciences seeking to launch research programs with undergraduate student collaborators. Faculty from predominantly undergraduate institutions will be eligible for awards of up to $8,000 to cover a supply budget, summer student housing, faculty and student stipends, and travel expenses to the joint Annual Meetings of the Society for Neuroscience and Faculty for Undergraduate Neuroscience. Selections will be made based on the justifications for and the quality of the proposed research experience for the undergraduate. Preference will be given to faculty from underrepresented minority groups (URM), to faculty from institutions serving women and/or minority groups, or to faculty who have identified URM students as research collaborators. Special consideration will be given to faculty members with little experience in grant-writing and who are just beginning their research programs.

Apply now to shelter a Chapter of Nu Rho Psi, the National Honor Society in Neuroscience.
It has been an active first year for Nu Rho Psi, The National Honor Society in Neuroscience. To date, the society has established 9 new chapters in 7 different states. The first chapter was placed at Baldwin-Wallace College, which is also the location of the National Office. The awarding of this first charter was closely followed by chapters at Baylor University, Macalester College, Drew University, University of St. Thomas, Knox College, Johns Hopkins University, St. Mary's College of Maryland, and the University of Scranton. We have inducted 81 student and faculty members so far.

Subject: Directory of Undergraduate Neuroscience Programs
I'm working on founding a neuroscience major at Dominican University in River Forest, Illinois. I wanted to canvas the programs offered at other institutions, and I was surprised to find it rather difficult to determine which schools do/don't offer a neuroscience major.
I ended up writing some automated scripts to harvest a comprehensive list of undergraduate neuroscience programs. Basically, the bot searched Google for "neuroscience major" and "neuroscience program" within the domain of every higher ed institution I could identify. Programs were identified as possible if they returned 1-2 hits, likely if they returned > 2 hits. The top hit was logged as the program url. This netted 185 likely and 177 possible programs, nationwide (from 747 institutions).
As this seems like it might be a useful resource for other FUN faculty members, I've posted the resulting directory online at http://nsmajor.homeip.net
The online directory can be queried by institution type, state, and the likelihood of having a program. Links to the institution and program are provided.
Because web harvesting is always imperfect, I have added a feature to let others suggest changes to the directory (e.g., if I missed a program, falsely identified a program, and/or harvested the wrong URL for a program). You can help greatly improve this list if you take a moment to find your home institution and suggest any necessary changes.
If this would be useful for FUN, I'd be glad to mirror this for the FUN website, or just have it linked in.
