MICROSOFT WINDOWS
Learn what's new in Windows 7 through on-line video tutorials and documentation.
Important: Most new Dell computers distributed to staff and faculty come with Windows 7 pre-installed.
Windows XP users with a Dell Optiplex 960 desktop computer or Dell Latitute E6400 laptop computer may request an upgrade to Windows 7 by calling the User Support Center at x4487.
However, please note that this upgrade requires a complete re-imaging of your computer. If the upgrade is approved, you must follow the instructions for preparing to receive a new Windows computer by copying all important data, documents, and bookmarks to another location. (If necessary, staff and faculty approved for an upgrade may borrow an external hard drive from the USC for this purpose.)

Un-Sharing Your Files On Windows XP
If your computer is running Windows XP, you may be inadvertently sharing your files
with others on the Smith network. This is because some XP computers are shipped with filesharing
enabled by default. This configuration is desirable for many home users, but does not provide
sufficient security and privacy for users connected to a campus-wide network. This document
explains how to disable filesharing on your computer.
Printing on Both Sides of
the Paper
HP LaserJet printers that have the letter D in their model name (D, DT, DN, or DTN)
all have built-in automatic duplexing capability. This document contains procedures for checking
your printer driver's abilities in Windows XP or Macintosh OS X systems. You will also find
general instructions for duplexing a document.
