INSTALLING IDENTITY FINDER

This page provides instructions for installing Identity Finder on a Smith-owned Mac or Windows computer connected to the Smith network.

Installing Identity Finder on a Windows Computer

  1. Log on to the Smith network with your Novell username and password.

  2. Open the Start menu and choose Run.

  3. In the Run window, enter: \\stuff\data\

  4. In the \\stuff\data\ window, double-click to open the following folders:

    UserFiles, then Identity Finder, then Identity Finder 5

  5. Win XP users: Double-click on Identity Finder winXP (2).exe to launch the installer.

  6. Win 7 users: Double-click on Identity Finder win764.exe to launch the installer.

  7. If you see any security alerts, click Yes or OK to proceed with the installation.

  8. A black-background command window will open. You can minimize this window, but it must stay open during the installation.

  9. The WinZip Self-Extractor window will open, followed by the Identity Finder Setup window. Click Next to continue.

  10. Click to accept the License Agreement, then click Next.

  11. In the Setup Type window, choose Only for me, then click the Typical button.

  12. In the Ready to Install window, click Install.

  13. When the installation is complete, be sure to un-check "Launch Identity Finder on startup."

  14. Click Finish.

  15. Double-click on the Identity Finder icon on your desktop to launch the program.

  16. If the program launches normally, follow the instructions for using Identity Finder on a Windows computer.

  17. If you are asked whether you want to Activate, Launch Free, or Exit, it means the license file is missing. This is easy to fix - just click Exit, then:

    Windows XP users:
  1. Go to Start/Run and enter \\stuff\data\

  2. Double-click to open the following folders:

    UserFiles / Identity Finder / Identity Finder 5 /Windows XP 32 bit /

  3. In the Windows XP 32 bit folder, double-click on license file 32Bit.exe

  4. Click Run to run the license-installer program.

  5. Restart your computer, then follow the instructions for using Identity Finder on a Windows computer.
Windows 7 users:
  1. Go to Start/Run and enter \\stuff\data\

  2. Double-click to open the following folders:

    UserFiles / Identity Finder / Identity Finder 5 / Windows 7 64 BIt /

  3. In the Windows 7 64 BIt folder, double-click on license file 64Bit.exe

  4. Click Run to run the license-installer program.

  5. Restart your computer, then follow the instructions for using Identity Finder on a Windows computer.

Installing Identity Finder on a Macintosh Computer

  1. In the Finder, open the Go menu and choose Connect to server.

  2. In the Connect to Server window, enter the following Server Address:

    afp://stuff.smith.edu

  3. In the Name and password window, enter your Novell username and password.

  4. In Select volume to mount, select STUFF.DATA if it is listed and click OK.

    1. If it is not listed, select STUFF.HOME, then click OK.

    2. In the STUFF.HOME window, double-click to open STUFF.DATA.

  5. Double-click to open UserFiles, then Identity Finder, then Identity Finder 5.

  6. Drag Identity Finder mac.pkg to your desktop and double-click on the icon to launch the installer.

  7. In the Welcome to the ID Installer window, click Continue.

  8. In the Standard Install window, click Install.

  9. In the Password window, enter your computer password.

  10. When the installation completes, click Close.
