MAINTAINING STAFF & FACULTY PRINTERS

CBS logoPrinter service and toner for all Smith-owned HP or Okidata* printers is now provided by Connecticut Business Systems (CBS), at substantial savings to the college.

Follow the instructions below to request toner or service for college-owned HP printers, and to recycle used toner cartridges.

*Please note that for repairs to Okidata printers, departments will be charged for parts and labor.



Requesting New Toner

As explained below, departments are required to purchase a CBS cartridge for any HP printer the first time they request service for it.

If you run out of toner but have no service problems, you have the option to purchase new toner directly from CBS. However, we are asking everyone not to order new toner from CBS before using up your existing toner supplies first.

If there are no non-CBS toner cartridges available, departments can order toner from CBS following the procedure below. Until all Smith printers are loaded into the CBS database, be prepared to provide:

  • Name of contact
  • Telephone number
  • Department name
  • Procurement card number
  • Building name and street address
  • Billing address
  • CBS printer ID number from the blue sticker on the front of the printer
  • Printer make, model, and ITS sticker number


To order toner:

  1. Write down the CBS Printer ID number and other required information for the printer(s) that requires toner.

    Note: If you are ordering toner for multiple printers, be sure to provide the CBS ID number for each printer. This will ensure that you aren't charged for toner if you later require service on one of these printers.

  2. Have your procurement card ready.

  3. Call CBS at 1-800-842-0009 and press 4 to order supplies.

  4. The CBS representative will put your procurement card on file and take your order.

We will add additional instructions to this page as soon as on-line ordering for toner cartridges becomes available.

Requesting Printer Service


To request repair service on a Smith-owned HP or Okidata* printer:

  1. Write down the CBS Printer ID number from the blue sticker on the front of the printer.

  2. Call the User Support Center at x4487 to report your printer problem.

  3. If this printer does not already have a CBS toner cartridge, follow the procedure above to order a new cartridge from CBS.

    IMPORTANT
    : If you do not order a toner order for the printer from CBS within a reasonable time, your department will be billed for the service call (parts and labor).

Recycling Used Toner Cartridges


CBS cartridges:

  1. All new CBS toner cartridges come with a prepaid UPS shipping label. If you don't have a label, follow the instructions below to print one yourself:

    1. Go to: tonerrecycle.net
    2. Complete the on-line form.
    3. Print as many shipping labels as you need.

  2. Pack each toner cartridge in its original packaging and attach the label.

  3. Give the packages to your UPS driver or drop them at any UPS location.

HP cartridges: Same as for CBS cartridges, above.

Okidata cartridges:

Other cartridges
: If you have purchased cartridges from another vendor, you are responsible for determining the recycling process for those cartridges.
