MAINTAINING STAFF & FACULTY PRINTERS

CBS logoPrinter service and toner for all Smith-owned HP or Okidata* laser printers is now provided by Connecticut Business Systems (CBS), at substantial savings to the college.

[Please note that inkjet printers are not covered by any of our maintenance contracts.]

Follow the instructions below to request toner or service for college-owned HP laser printers, and to recycle used toner cartridges.

*Note that departments will be charged for parts and labor for repairs to Okidata laser printers.



Requesting New Toner

As explained below, departments are required to purchase a CBS cartridge for any HP laser printer the first time they request service for it.

Departments can order toner from CBS following the procedure below. Be prepared to provide:

  • Name of contact
  • Telephone number
  • Department name
  • Procurement card number
  • Building name and street address
  • Billing address
  • CBS printer ID number from the blue sticker on the front of the printer
  • Printer make, model, and ITS sticker number


Ordering Toner:

  1. Write down the CBS Printer ID number and other required information for the printer(s) that requires toner.

    Note: If you are ordering toner for multiple printers, be sure to provide the CBS ID number for each printer. This will ensure that you aren't charged for toner if you later require service on one of these printers.

  2. Have your procurement card ready.

  3. Call CBS at 1-800-842-0009 and press 4 to order supplies. A CBS representative will request your procurement card number and take your order.

  4. Alternatively, you can order toner cartridges from CBS on-line using this form:

    If CBS does not have your procurement card information on file, a representative will call you to request it.

Requesting Printer Service


Please note that for service on a laser printer to be covered under Smith's agreement with CBS, a toner cartridge for that printer must have been ordered through CBS. 

To request repair service on a Smith-owned HP or Okidata* laser printer:

  1. Write down the CBS Printer ID number from the blue sticker on the front of the printer.

  2. Call the User Support Center at x4487 to report your printer problem.

  3. If this printer does not already have a CBS toner cartridge, follow the procedure above to order a new cartridge from CBS.

    IMPORTANT
    : If you do not order a toner order for the printer from CBS within a reasonable time, your department will be billed for the service call (parts and labor).

- Go to: http://www.tonerrecycle.net/how-to-contact-us/

- Complete the on-line form to request a return mailing box.

- When you receive the box, fill it with used toner cartridges. The new larger boxes are designed to help reduce the high cost of shipping one cartridge at a time.

- Return the filled box following the instructions provided.

HP and HP-compatible laser printers,
method 2
If WB Mason delivers office supplies to your office, note that the driver can take used HP and HP-compatible cartridges. All used cartridges must be boxed, taped, and labeled EMPTY before the driver can take them.


If you have purchased cartridges from another vendor, you are responsible for determining the recycling process for those cartridges.
