Most Smith staff and faculty now have the option to send their print jobs to a Xerox Multi-Function Device (MFD) located in their office area. This document explains the steps required to set up your computer to print using an MFD.
Important! Please do not perform this procedure until one business day before your new MFD is scheduled for delivery.

Install Required Software
Before you can print using an MFD, the appropriate printer driver and iPrint software must be installed on your computer.
If you have any problems completing this process in one browser, please try a different browser.
Windows 7 users: Please use Firefox to perform this procedure. Instead of opening Firefox directly, right-click on the Firefox icon and choose Run as Administrator.
All Windows users: If you already use an MFD, please skip directly to step 3 below. If you have never installed an MFD on your computer before, skip to step 2.
- REQUIRED for Mac users only:
Install updated printer drivers.
- Open the Go menu and choose Connect to server.
- In the Server Address field, enter afp://stuff.smith.edu and click Connect.
- Enter your network username and password and click Connect.
- In the next window, select STUFF.DATA.
- In the STUFF.DATA window, open UserFiles, then Mac Xerox drivers.
- Open the folder that matches your Xerox MFD model:
- Installer for 6605 model
- Installer for all other models
- Holding down Option-Shift, click on the .dmg file and drag it to your desktop.
- Double-click on the .dmg file to open the installer package.
- Double-click on the .mpkg file to run the installer.
- Click Continue at the first three prompts.
- Click Agree to the software license.
- Click Install.
- Enter the password for your Macintosh computer account to allow the install.
- in the Select a Printer window, click on the large icon on the right.

Your window should now look like this:

Click Continue. (You don’t have to type in an address or name.)

At the Print Queue Not Created warning screen, click Continue.

When you see Installation Successful, click Close and proceed to step 2.
- Open the Go menu and choose Connect to server.
- REQUIRED for all Mac users and for Windows users who have not used an MFD before:
Install the updated iPrint software client.
Important! Please do not perform this procedure until one business day before your new MFD is scheduled for delivery.
- Click on the printing page for your department's network server below. A separate Novell iPrint window will open.

- If prompted, enter your network username and password in the login box.
- In the iPrint window, click on the Install iPrint Client link at the top, as shown below.

- IMPORTANT! When the iPrint installation is complete, be sure to CLOSE the Novell iPrint window.
- Click on the printing page for your department's network server below. A separate Novell iPrint window will open.
- All Users: Click on the printing page for your department's network server below. A separate Novell iPrint window will open.

- Click on the name of whichever MFD you want to use for printing.

- If prompted, enter your network username and password in the login box.
- If either the printer driver or the iPrint program are not yet installed on your computer, you will see the following message:

- If you wish to make the MFD your default printer, click the check box beside Set printer as default.
- Click Yes to begin the installation.
- The Novell iPrint Client Printer Installation Status window will open and display the progress of the installation.
- When the installation is complete, the window will close automatically.
- If your department uses account codes, follow the appropriate steps below to enter your account code on a Windows or Mac computer.
- If your department does not use account codes, your installation is complete. Proceed to the instructions for using your MFD printer.
Enter an Account Code on a Windows Computer
If your department uses account codes (the 4-digit number you enter to make copies using the MFD), follow these steps to enter and save your account code for printing:
- Windows XP: Go to Start/Printers and Faxes.
Windows 7: Go to Start/ Devices and Printers.
- Right-click on the name of your MFD printer and select Properties (Win XP) or Printer Properties (Win 7).
- In the Properties window, click the Configuration tab.
- Xerox 7225:
- On the Configuration tab, under Configuration Settings, locate the Accounting options.

- For System, click None and choose Xerox Standard Accounting or Auditron.
- For Print-Time Prompt, click on Always Prompt and choose Do Not Prompt.
- In the Accounting Codes (Required) window, enter your 4- or 5-digit account code in the User ID field and click OK.

- Back in the Properties window, click OK to close the window.
- On the Configuration tab, under Configuration Settings, locate the Accounting options.
- Xerox 7800 series:
- On the Configuration tab, under Configuration Settings, locate the Accounting options.

- For System, click None and choose Send User ID Only.
- For Print-Time Prompt, click on Always Prompt and choose Do Not Prompt.
- When the Accounting Codes (Required) window appears, enter your 4- or 5-digit account code in the User ID field and click OK.

- Back in the Properties window, click OK to close the window.
- On the Configuration tab, under Configuration Settings, locate the Accounting options.
Enter an Account Code on a Mac
If your department uses account codes (the 4-digit number you enter to make copies using the MFD), follow these steps to enter and save your account code for printing:
- Open Microsoft Word.
- Click on File / Print.
- Choose your MFD printer from the drop-down menu.
- Click the up-arrow next to the printer name to open the Print window.
- In the Copies and Pages drop-down menu, choose Xerox Features.

- When the Paper/Output drop-down menu appears, choose Advanced.

- Click on the Accounting button.

- In the Accounting window, under Accounting System, choose Xerox Standard Accounting OR Send User ID Only.
- In the Default User ID/Passcode box, enter your 4- or 5-digit account code. Ignore all other fields and click OK. If you get an error saying a code is required in another field, enter the same account code.

- Back in the Print window, be sure to save this setting! In the Presets menu at the top, click on Default Settings and choose Save Current Settings As Preset.
- Give your Preset a name, then click OK.
Using your MFD to print files
Once the printer driver and iPrint are installed, the MFD you selected will appear in the list of printers
you see when you try to print from any application. If you made it your default printer, it will be selected automatically when you initiate a print job.
If you attempt to print using your MFD before it is fully installed, you will see the message below. Just choose a different printer from your list.

Note that it's easy to change your default printer at any time:
- Go to Start /Settings /Printers
and Faxes.
- In your list of printers, your current default printer will have a small checkmark icon beside it, as shown below:

- Right-click on whichever other printer you wish to be your default printer, and choose Set as Default Printer from the pop-up menu.
- Close the Printers and Faxes window and you're all set.
