Dean of Libraries Susan Fliss and Vice President/Chief Information Officer Samantha Earp are delighted to announce that Jean Ferguson will be joining Smith College in the newly created role of Director of Learning, Research, and Technology (LRT).

Reporting jointly to Samantha and Susan, Jean will lead the Library-ITS team focused on educational technology; library research, instruction and liaison services; and spatial analysis and GIS; and she will be a member of the leadership group developing service models for the new Neilson library.

Jean comes to Smith from the University of California, Berkeley, where she led initiatives to transform services, spaces, and partnerships for the Moffitt (undergraduate) Library, including learning space and academic technology projects; and Duke University, where she managed a 19 person team focused on library research and instructional services and co-led the development of the Edge research commons. Prior to her library career, Ms. Ferguson held project and change management roles in the technology industry. A former Peace Corps Volunteer in Poland, Jean holds a B.A. in Political Science from Augustana College and master’s degrees from Ball State University (Information and Communication Services) and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Library Science). Jean’s first date at Smith will be April 29.
