SAVING AND RESTORING BROWSER BOOKMARKS
The directions below explain how to save your browser bookmarks to your
H: drive (or another location), so you can copy them to a different computer later.
Internet Explorer
Mozilla Firefox
Safari
Google Chrome
INTERNET EXPLORER
Save (export) your bookmarks to your H: drive (or another location)
- Open Internet Explorer.
- Go to File/Import and Export.
- In the Import Export Wizard, click Next.
- Select Export Favorites and click Next.
- Select Favorites and click Next.
- Select Export to a file or address and click Browse.
- Change the Save in location to H: or another location.
Be sure to note the location so you can retrieve the file later.
- Click Next then Finish.
Your bookmarks are now saved in a file called bookmarks.html.
Copy (import) bookmarks to a different computer
- Open Internet Explorer.
- Go to File, Import and Export.
- In the Welcome Wizard, click Next.
- Select Import Favorites and click Next.
- Select Import from a file or address and click Browse to
locate your bookmarks.html file.
- Select Favorites and click Next.
- Click Next then Finish.
MOZILLA FIREFOX
Save (export) your bookmarks to your H: drive (or another location)
- Open Firefox.
- Go to Bookmarks / Manage Bookmarks or Organize
Bookmarks.
- In the Bookmarks Manager window, go to File/Export.
- Change the Save in location to H: or another location.
(Be sure to note the location so you can retrieve the file later.)
- Click Save.
Your bookmarks are now saved in a file called bookmarks.html.
Copy (import) bookmarks to a different computer
- Open Firefox.
- Go to Bookmarks / Manage Bookmarks or Organize
Bookmarks.
- In the Bookmarks Manager window, go to File/Import.
- Change the Look in location to the drive where you have your bookmarks.html file,
and open the file.
SAFARI
Save (export) your bookmarks to your H: drive (or another location)
- Open Safari.
- Go to File > Export Bookmarks.
- Change the Save As location to your network drive or another location.
(Be sure to note the location so you can retrieve the file later.)
- Click Save.
Your bookmarks are now saved in a file called Safari Bookmarks.html.
Copy (import) bookmarks to a different computer
- Open Safari.
- Go to File / Import Bookmarks.
- In the Import Bookmarks window, go to the location where you saved your bookmarks then select the Safari Bookmarks.html file, and choose Import.
GOOGLE CHROME
The process is a little more complicated for Google Chrome.
Save (export) your bookmarks to your H: drive (or another location)
- In Chrome, click the 3-bar Google Chrome menu icon in the top right.
- Select Bookmarks, then Bookmark manager.
- In the Bookmark Manager, click the Organize drop-down menu in the light-blue bar and select Export bookmarks.
- In the Save As window, rename the file chromebookmarks.html and navigate to the location on your H: drive or external drive where you wish to save the file. Be sure to note the location so you can retrieve the file later.
- Click Save, then close the Bookmarks Manager.
Your bookmarks are now saved in a file called chromebookmarks.html.
Copy (import) bookmarks on a different computer
- On your new computer, follow the steps above to copy (import) your chromebookmarks.html file into Internet Explorer or Firefox.
- In Chrome, click the 3-bar Google Chrome menu icon in the top right.
- Select Bookmarks, then Import bookmarks and settings.
- In the From menu, choose Internet Explorer or Firefox.
