COPYING EVENTS FROM YOUR PERSONAL CALENDAR INTO YOUR SMITH CALENDAR
This document explains how to copy all the events in a personal Google Calendar into an ICS file, then import those events into your Smith Calendar.
Note that this is not the same as actually sharing a calendar. For sharing instructions, view this PDF file.
Requirements
- A personal Google Calendar with calendar events
- An active Smith Mail account
Limitations of the import/export procedure
- Note that guests and resources will not transfer to your Smith Calendar because they are based on your personal Google account.
- You will need to re-add any guests and resources, then re-send invitations.
Exporting events from your personal Google calendar
- Log in to your personal Google calendar: calendar.google.com
- Under My calendars, click on the down-arrow beside your name and choose Settings.
- At the bottom of the Settings window, find the section labeled Private Address and
click the button labeled ICAL:
- A pop-up window will appear showing the private address of your calendar.
- Click on the private address link and save the ICAL file to your desktop. The file will be called basic.ics.
Importing events into a Smith Calendar
- Log in to your Smith Calendar: calendar.smith.edu
- If you wish to add your personal events to an existing calendar, skip to step 4.
- If you wish to create a new calendar for your personal events:
- Click the down-arrow beside My Calendar and choose Settings.
- Click Create new calendar.
- Name your calendar, then click Create calendar.
- Click the down-arrow beside My Calendar and choose Settings.
- In the Settings window, click the Import Calendar link.
- In the Import Calendar window, click Choose File, browse to the basic.ics file, and select it.
- Select the name of the calendar to which the events should be added.
- Click Import.
- All your personal calendar events should now appear in your Smith Calendar.
