CREATING YOUR GROUPWISE FORWARDING RULE


Staff and Faculty: Please do not following the instructions below until you are asked to do so in the week before your department migrates from GroupWise to Smith Mail & Calendar.

If you create the forwarding rule before that time, you will end up with multiple duplicate messages in your Smith Mail inbox, including messages you may have deleted in GroupWise.



Here's how to create a new GroupWise rule that will forward a copy of all your incoming messages to your new Smith Mail account:

  1. Log in to GroupWise Web Access using any browser except Safari:

     http://gwweb.smith.edu/

    (Note that your rule will not work if you create it in Safari.)

  2. Click on the word Options in the green bar on the upper right.

  3. In the Options window, click on the Rules tab.

  4. From the Type menu, select Forward and click Create.

  5. In the Create Rule - Forward window, name your rule:  Forward to Google

  6. In the Define Operational Condition area, leave everything blank.

  7. In the Define Action area, enter username@goo.smith.edu in the To field, substituting your actual username for username.

    (Note that your rule will not work if there are any typos in this address.)

    The example below shows what the window should look like for Harry Potter.

  8. Leave every other field blank and do not click anywhere else - just click Save.

  9. You will see a warning about the rule applying to all messages. Click OK.

  10. Click Save again and you will be returned to your list of rules.

  11. Click Save again and you will see the message: Rules activate status saved

  12. You're all done, unless you have other forwarding rules in your list. In that case, proceed to step 13.

  13. If you have set other forwarding rules for your GroupWise messages, either:

    1. Disable them in GroupWise Web Access, or

    2. Use the GroupWise desktop client to re-order your rules so the Forward to Google rule is at the top of your list.
