CLOUD STORAGE OPTIONS
Cloud-storage services make it easy to access, share, and work collaboratively on all your files. Smith has been providing both Google Drive and Box accounts to all Smith users since 2012, but recent changes to Google Drive (including enhanced security, an improved user interface, and basic editing of Microsoft Office documents within Drive) have made Box unnecessary.
We are therefore discontinuing our Box subscription in spring 2015. Smith Box accounts will be inaccessible after March 31, 2015, so all Box users should plan to transfer their files to an alternate location before that date. For more information, click here.
Google Drive is available to all Smith users via the 9-square Apps grid on the top right of your Smith Mail window. You can store almost any type of file in Drive and access your files from any computer or mobile device connected to the Internet.
In addition, if you install the Google Drive client on your computer, you can access and edit files stored in your Drive account directly from your desktop, and continue working with your files even when your computer or device is off-line.
Google Apps for Education (GAFE) users are currently allocated 30 GB of storage space in their combined Mail and Drive account. However, Google docs, sheets, and presentations are not counted against this total. In addition Google has announced plans to give every GAFE user unlimited storage space in the near future.
