LETTER GENERATION/POPULATION SELECTION PROCESS
Because the upgrade to Banner 2000 involves an operating system change from VMS to UNIX the command syntax for processes run on the host computer will also involve some small changes. The biggest difference is that UNIX is case sensitive. Glbdata is not the same as glbdata. You must type the commands below in lower case.
When you log into Shelly (the new UNIX host computer) you will get the UNIX prompt: path> instead of the VMS prompt: $ that you got on Bessie.
GLBDATA
| At the UNIX prompt type: | glbdata.shl username password |
| You will get a prompt for the Run Sequence Number of the population selection that you want to run. | |
GLBSEL
| At the UNIX prompt type: | glblsel.shl username password |
| You will get a prompt for the application of the letter that you want to run. | |
GLRLETR
| At the UNIX prompt type: | glrletr username/password |
For more detail about these processes, see Chapter 11 "Letter Generation" under the General, then Technical Reference section of the Banner 2000 manuals, on-line at www.smith.edu/banner3.
