The objective for this course is two-fold: a) to explore advanced aspects of French grammar, syntax, and written expression, as well as linguistic theories and structures, including those of Claude Lévi-Strauss and Pierre Bourdieu, and b) to practice French oral discourse in terms of diction, intonation, and pronunciation, and also in terms of different situations, such as everyday conversations and academic discourse. Requirements for the course include composition and writing on different topics, phonetic exercises, dialogue, argumentation, and debates among the students, oral and written analyses, critiques, and presentations.
