Smith JYA in Geneva proposes to interested students a wide range of
activities during the academic year abroad:
Cultural excursions: Weekend trips to the Swiss Alps (Zermatt) and Sion,
capitale of the Valais Canton, and to the Basel Carnaval (including a
visit to the famous Beyeler Fondation on Contemporary Art); day-trips to
the medieval Château of Chillon (and to the Rochers-de-Naye from
Montreux), to the Swiss capital of Bern, and to the medieval French city
of Yvoire.
Cultural activities: Small-group and individual outings to the theater,
the opera, the museums and to lectures on politics and international
relations. Guided-tours to the international organizations (ILO, UNHCR,
Palais des Nations) and to well-known sites such as the Château de
Voltaire in Ferney, the Château de Coppet, and the Fondation Bodmer. The
University of Geneva offers a variety of cultural activities as well.
Sports activities: The University of Geneva offers a wide range of sport
activities. Among other activities, enjoy sailing or rowing on the beautiful Lac
Léman, horseback riding, alpinism, or a ski trip to the French or Swiss
Alps.
Cultural immersion: Occasional invitations from Alumnae families to join
them for discussions of the "Swiss way of life."
