Changing Plans

A student who wishes to be away from the college for a semester or academic year abroad must submit a Request for Approved Off-Campus Study Leave Form to the Office for International Study by May 1 for fall semester or academic year study abroad, or by December 1 for spring semester study abroad.

If a student chooses to cancel her study abroad plans and remain or return to Smith, she must notify the Office for International Study and her class dean in writing (an email is acceptable), normally by the dates above, and no later than the first day of classes. She must also notify her study abroad program. The student will be responsible for any non-refundable fees and deposits already paid to the study abroad program on her behalf. The student is also responsible for contacting Housing to request a room.

Students who withdraw from their study abroad programs after the program has started are responsible for any non-refundable fees charged by the study abroad program, and may not return to Smith that semester if classes have already begun at Smith.
