New Business/ Open Discussions:

Sam invited by Carol Christ to speak at Convocation. Sam spoke to Merrilyn and is open to thoughts and suggestions. He thought he would focus on Smith being about the people and what “stamp” the students faculty and staff bring to the College

Janice McDowell explained New Employee Orientation. Laurie Wyman volunteered to be back up script reader but still needed back up drivers. Steve Monteiro and Art Usher agreed to be back up drivers. Suggestion made to request smaller vans when possible.

Amount of pesticide being used by College questioned by some staff. Are we using more than necessary? Suggestion made that the issue be answered with a possible article in the Chronicle.

Someone questioned whether the College would be offering a lock in offer on heating oil. Need to check with Stanley Rosko.

Discussion on Car pooling policy. It was suggested that there could be an article in the chronicle on MassDrive and the college benefits when car pooling.

It was suggested that Staff Council meeting times be posted on E Digest. It was asked that hard copies of meeting times be posted in Physical Plant and Dinning Services since there was limited access to computers in those areas.

Discussion on Staff Councils role in hurricane relief efforts. It was decided to place a notice on E Digest stating that S.C discussed it and strongly suggest people donate to one of the main relief organizations, such as the Red Cross.

College forming a Parking Appeals Committee comprised of representatives from the Student Body/ Public Safety/ Faculty/ Staff Council. Karen Lehouiller enthusiastically volunteered to represent S.C.

It was announced that Jay Lucey will be the unionized staff representative on new H.R. director search committee.
