The Staff Council Web page was updated and redesigned by Sam Rush after the Communications Committee spent months coordinating employee discounts from area vendors. The Activities Committee had a successful and busy year with many trips and also organizing a benefit for cancer research, a food drive for Northampton Survival Center and a memorial planting in memory of Marie L'Heureux. The Personal Policy Committee met often with Liane Sullivan-Crowley on issues such as: the employee excellence program, performance evaluation procedures, equal tuition assistance for all employees and employee work overload.
The Council Chronicle has been read and enjoyed by all.
The design of the picnic tables is hanging up the process of the proposal. The landscape designer is going to discuss what is appropriate for the college.
Elections for Staff Council are a little behind. Bill Sheehan ask for volunteers for the Employee Excellence Committee. Staff who were on last year committee told that it is a very rewarding committee, but time commitment is needed. College Council appointments are Sandy Bycenski, Patty Kimura, Scott Girard, and Ann Finley.
Budget for Staff Council
Bill said the budget he submitted to the controller, which was approved. Budget for on going diversity training was added into Staff Council budget. Letter from Ruth Constantine regarding this approval will be sent soon.
Sarah Lazare will be leaving the college and asked for volunteer to replace her as ACRA representative. After asking some questions, Jane Sommer agreed to replace Sarah in her own pushy way.
Sandy Bycenski will update the handouts to be given out at Orientation on June 14th. She will notify committee chairs to ask them to speak about the past year accomplishments, call Ann Godin to reserve Neilson Browsing room and contact Patty Hentz for ordering lunches.
Cindy said one bus traveled to NYC with no problems. She has chosen "Make a Wish Foundation" to be our benefit at the All College Picnic. 190 Activities Surveys were returned. Tanglewood Trip is planned for Aug 5th .
Sandy said that Stanley Rosko called and said that BJ's Wholesale will be coming to the College and he will be sending out an announcement to all employees- $15.00 per card for 15 months.
John Eue said that the Staff Council Web Page is under Community/College Governance on the new Smith College Home page.
Personal Policy Committee met with Liane Sullivan-Crowley to talk about employee workload issues. The committee did not know how to address the issue and asked Liane for her input.
Liane said that in Human Resources they have cross-trained people to cover basics of other person's job. HR is trying to get figures on what departments are maxing out their comp time.
Chrissie Bell suggested to Staff Council to listen to the community for identifying hot spots on campus. Liane needs employees to come to her with any workload problems or questions.
Mary Clayton asked staff council members to make sure employees are sending back the Employee Review forms.
Meeting adjourned at 11:45a.m.
Respectfully submitted by Sandy Bycenski and Patty Kimura
