Staff Council was officially established in the Summer of 1992. The first issue of the Council's newsletter was published in March 1993.
May - considering topics of race and injustice in light of recent incidents in the community, staff appreciation, and a spotlight on Laurie Fenlason, vice president for public affairs.

In 1988 a group of Smith College staff members completed multi-cultural training with the Equity Institute. They were challenged to "increase the level of communication among Smith staff." They formed a working group called 'Staff Connection', and published four issues of a newsletter called Connecting.
