Welcome to our Staff Council Virtual Bulletin Board! In addition to the e-mail/print version of the Chronicle that you will receive once each semester, you'll be able to read the latest staff news here, including staff questions answered, volunteer opportunities, and important staff updates.


New York City Bus Trip

Staff Council is sponsoring the NYC bus trip on December 6. The coach bus will depart from Ainsworth Gym at 7 a.m. and leave NYC at 7 p.m., returning approximately 10:30 p.m. The trip is open to Smith employees and their guests. Seats are limited; reserve by sending checks ($45 per person, payable to Smith College) to Nikki Beck, Mendenhall T113. Reservations will be confirmed once payment is received. (Trip cancellation date: 11/20.) If you have questions, contact staffactivities@smith.edu.

Facilities Management

You may have noticed some new faces in your area--Building Services staff who may be still coming up to speed on the care of spaces new to them. Facilities Management provided the following statement regarding the "bumping" process:

Facilities Operations recently went through a series of job changes to provide better service to our customers and improve efficiencies. Local 263 staff just completed a bid/bump exercise as part of this change. Starting the week of September 21st, staff began moving into their new assignments. Please note that not all staff were impacted by this exercise, but there were several staff changes. These staffing changes should not impact services. If you have questions, please contact Michael Lane, Director of Operations.

Liberal Arts Luncheons

Staff members are welcome to attend Liberal Arts Luncheons, which are held Thursdays from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. in Seelye Hall 201 (unless otherwise noted). Presentations are sponsored by the Committee on Academic Priorities and allow the campus community to learn about the specific research interests and work of faculty members.

A buffet lunch is hosted by the Office of the Provost/Dean of the Faculty and served in Seelye Hall 207 at 11:45 a.m. The talks begin at 12:10 p.m. across the hall in 201. You can find more information, including the schedule, here.
