Message from Dean of Students, Julianne Ohotnicky
The Smith College Convocation Kick-Off begins at 5:15 pm on Wednesday, September 3rd with an outdoor BBQ happening at three different locations to accommodate different areas of campus - the Quad, Davis Lawn and Chapin Lawn. Students, faculty and staff are all encouraged to attend and celebrate the start of the academic year before heading over to Convocation.
Convocation will take place from 7-7:45 pm at John M. Greene Hall. Following Convocation everyone will be directed to the Convocation Carnival happening in front of the Campus Center and Chapin Lawn (inside the Campus Center in the event of rain). The Student Event Committee, WOZQ, SGA, Dining Services, the Dean of the College and the Division of Student Affairs have come together to plan a celebration marking the beginning of another academic year at the college. The event will be filled with inflatables and novelties, music and food as we celebrate our community together. The event will run until 10 pm. Families should use discretion when making a decision to bring children, as we do expect more than 2000 very excited Smith undergraduates to be in attendance.
We are hoping that many members of our community will come out to celebrate at the events and re-imagine the start of the academic year. I hope you will all join me!
