Sunday, March 2, 2008, 3:00 p.m. Eastern time - 11:00 p.m. Eastern time on Wednesday, March 5, 2008: Third summer students may register for three electives first term, and four electives second term. Use CRN's, not SSW course numbers, to register!
If you cannot register during the above times, you may fax your prioritized choices - noting CRN's for each course - before 12:00 noon on Friday, February 29, Attn: Sharyn Zuffelato, (413) 585-7994 or
email them to sswoas@email.smith.edu by the same date no later than 12:00 noon Eastern Time.
You will not be able to register until the dates and times specified above.
- Using BannerWeb transcript of courses and grades, add up the credits you earned in summer terms to date. Include any transfer credits that appear on the transcript.
- Most student will have a total of 42 summer credits.
- Subtract your total from 56 to determine the number of elective credits you will need to graduate. In most cases it will be 14, the equivalent of seven courses--three in first term and four second term. If you will need more than 7 courses for the degree, contact Valerie Abrahamsen, Registrar, vabraham@email.smith.edu, before 12:00 noon the Friday before Web Registration to have your maximum credits reset.
- Elective option credits for the degree: To qualify for the degree, all students must successfully complete one course from each of the following option categories. Most students entering their final summer have already taken the (F) option in the second summer and may have completed others as well.

*Note: An asterisk denotes courses that can be used in more than one way (check elective listings), but a course may not be used to satisfy two options in your schedule.
Courses in brackets are not offered this year but may be on your transcript from a previous year.
In the categories above where you have not yet satisfied the degree requirement, refer to the Schedule of Electives by term to find courses so coded. All other courses in your schedule may be electives of your "free" choosing. Those coded "3rd sum" on the schedule are exclusively for third summer students but not required. Click on "Supplement to Course Listings" at the bottom of the page to view the descriptions of these electives designed for your class alone.
At the end of your four-day registration period you should have at least seven courses: three in Term 1and four in Term 2, with elective requirements met. You may add an extra course in each term during the final April registration period or distribute your courses differently. Do not exceed five courses in a term.
For detailed descriptions of courses and the course Supplement, go to the online course listings. New electives must run for three years before they are considered for addition to the permanent on-line course listings.
To apply to waive a prerequisite, download and print the application form from
this link (pdf file). You will need Adobe Acrobat® to read and print this document. Download the free software here.
Changes can and often do occur after registration. If you are registered for a course that changes term or meeting time, this office will send notice of the change to you, attempt to register you again in the changed offering, and follow-up if there is a time conflict.
About Wait Lists: If a course is closed, Banner returns a message to say you have been added to the waitlist. We do not have sufficient staffing to manage waitlists, so please ignore that message.
Though the Office of Academic Support Services will run routine degree audits at the end of each registration period, students bear responsibility for meeting degree requirements.
