Additional Requirements
Please note the following additional requirements for entering students:
a. Psychopharmacology lecture. All first-summer MSW students are required to attend the two-hour psychopharmacology lecture, held in conjunction with the Human Biology requirement; see below. Date TBA.
b. Human Biology. All first-summer MSW students are required to meet the Human Biology requirement unless they successfully waive it. The Human Biology requirement at SSW consists of a series of non-credit human biology lectures in Term 2 that provides essential content for social work practitioners. In order to waive the requirement, students must demonstrate that they have had an opportunity to study in college or in formal in-service training courses content on human biology. At a minimum, they must document having had course work that covers three out of five areas: brain physiology, psychopharmacology, human sexuality, medical ethical issues and psychosomatics. The dates of these lectures will be announced later in the year. They are usually held in Graham Hall, Hillyer.
Transferring and Waiving
If you have completed
course work elsewhere that closely aligns with the description
of any of your required courses, you may be eligible for transfer credit and thus not need to take the course. See the form and instructions for transferring course credit; in order to ensure that you are placed properly in your courses, please submit materials and the form to OAS by April 1, 2010.
You may also petition
to waive (pdf) a course and replace it with an elective. Note the April 1, 2010, deadline for submitting materials to OAS.
Students should not attempt to transfer and waive the same course/s.
Important Information on Disability Accommodations
Students needing accommodations/assistance during Central Check-In prior to the start of classes due to a disability should contact the Smith College Office of Disability Services. Appropriate medical documentation must be submitted in accordance with the College's guidelines, which can be found on the ODS website. Please allow two weeks to one month to complete this process so that arrangements can be made to assist you throughout the check-in process.
