Esperanza Martell, from the Brecht Forum Institute for Popular Education and adjunct faculty member, will conduct a workshop.
This is an introductory hands-on workshop in the use of Popular Education concepts and techniques based on the complementary approaches to Education for Liberation developed by 2 Brazilian cultural activists: philosopher Paulo Freire, author of Pedagogy of the Oppressed, and theater director Augusto Boal, Workers Party (PT) activist and founder of the Theater of the Oppressed.

The goal of this workshop is to provide summer teaching faculty on-going support and space to reflect on classroom transactions in connection with diversity content. Participants and the facilitators will determine together which topics will be covered. Previous workshops have addressed such issues as:

use of self to futher issues of diversity and ways of attending to diversity in all classes; |

how to respond to student-faculty and student-student microaggressions around diversity content; |
| |
similarities and differences in racial identity development for minority and majority group participants; |
| |
other selected didactic content, etc. |
This workshop is open to all summer teaching faculty. Adjunct teaching faculty is particularly encouraged to attend.

THESIS INFORMATION & COLLOQUIA
Each year the School for Social Work has the pleasure of administering the Eleanor Clark Thesis Prize and the Amith Ben-David Memorial Thesis Prize. The School acknowledges the significant accomplishment of all students who have completed their theses; however, these awards have been established in honor of 2 alumnae and they recognize research in specific areas of interest.

February 28 - March 5, 2011, AGPA Annual Meeting, New York
Jaycelle Basford-Pequet ('10) and her wife, Amy Basford-Pequet ('08) were invited to present a workshop, "The See-ers and the Seen: Race, Sexual Orientation and Gender in Groups" at the 2011 Annual Meeting of the American Group of Psychotherapy Association (AGPA) in New York City.
The workshop will include a presentation of Jaycelle's master's thesis and will focus on the internalized and externalized experience of group formation as informed by self-identification and perceived affiliation related to race, sexual orientation, class, as well as other seen and unseen memberships.

The Holistic Healing Group seeks to explore complimentary and alternative medicine (CAM), spiritual practices, and culturally sensitive approaches to healing beyond the scope of the Westen biomedical program. The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, and Fluid (LGBTQQIF) Alliance is a student group open to the queer community and allies. The Alliance Task Force is a subgroup of the LGBTQQ Alliance and is focused on planning and action items for the larger group.
Meditate with us! The Meditation Group gathers 3 times a week to support one another in the practice of being present through breath. Anyone is welcome, regardless of previous experience. We are always happy to offer guidance. And don't hesitate to join even if we've already begun.

This is a space in which whiteness is felt, embodied, and explored through personal experience. Starting July 29 there will be yoga class for social work students. Any and all experience levels are welcome. It will be a nice way to practice self-care in your final few weeks of this summer session. Yoga mats and other props will be available for students to use.
