The Block Plan

The Program of the School is based on an interrelated sequence of summer academic and winter field practice sessions.  Successful completion of each session within the allotted time interval is a prerequisite to enrollment in a subsequent session.

Sessions I through V

The sessions are defined as follows:

Session I is the first ten-week session held on the Smith College campus during the summer for Plan A Master's students.

Session II is the first field placement period for Plan A Master's students.  For Master's students, one-helf day per week is devoted to the Community Project.

Session III is the second ten-week academic session held on the College campus during the summer for Plan A Master's students.  It is the first academic session for BSW Advanced Standing students.

Session IV is the second field placement period for Plan A Master's students, and the first placement period for BSW Advanced Standing.  In the Masters' programs, one-half day per week is devoted to the research project.

Session V is the final ten-week academic session held on campus for Plan A and BSW Advanced Standing.
